Building Connections FAQs
1. How much will the project cost?
At least $2 million for building the new addition + approximately $900 thousand to pay existing mortgage.
2. What happens if we raise less than we estimate?
We will evaluate our situation at the end of the campaign and make a decision then. Fortunately, we have $300,000 in savings to go toward this project.
3. Will we borrow money?
Our goal is to be debt free in three years. We will need to have a three-year mortgage during the period when commitments are coming in.
4. Can this building be built in phases?
Yes, if there is a need to build this building in phases, we can do that. Our hope is that we will be able to complete the building in one phase.
5. Why do we need to do this now?
We're currently not able to meet the requests and needs of current ministries, much less fulfill our desire to expand for future ministries.
6. How much will I be asked or expected to give?
No one in this campaign is going to tell you what you should give. That decision is to be prayerfully made by each individual or family. We ask each person to be diligent about seeking God's will for what his/her contribution should be. One of the themes we are emphasizing in this campaign is "Not equal gifts, but equal sacrifice." We cannot all give the same amount, but we can all sacrifice equally.
7. How and when will we let the church know our individual financial commitment to the campaign?
We will use commitment cards. Each individual or family will complete one of the cards as a simple statement of intent. This card is not a contract. However, the amount you commit is critical for us to plan wisely for this project. Our goal is to have the commitment cards turned in at the Special Event on Sunday, May 18, 2008.
8. Is my commitment confidential?
Absolutely! All giving, including the stewardship campaign, is kept completely confidential.
9. If necessary, can I change my commitment?
Of course. God may bless you financially so you can give more. We also know that changing circumstances may force you to decrease your commitment.
10. How often will I give?
You determine your giving schedule, but we would encourage you to set it up so you give on a regular basis. Most people decide what they will give monthly; some may give weekly, quarterly, or one large gift once a year.
11. I am already giving to the church. Should I redirect my giving to support the campaign?
No. The church's day-to-day operations and ministries are covered by your regular, ongoing tithes and offerings. We must continue to balance our budget during this three-year stewardship campaign. Every dollar you give to this campaign should be a gift "over and above" your current giving.
